Fighting Depression
Posted on December 3, 2008
Overcoming depression is far from easy, I should know as I have had to fight against many inner demons. I have spent many a night trying desperately to get to sleep but being unable to. It was as if my brain would not shut down with a number of worries and fears constantly going through my mind. After much work and many a battle I have now managed to come out on top. I have managed to eradicate this depression, hopefully once and for all and in this article I will explain how I managed to do this.
The reasons for my own personal depression were due to a number of reasons, mainly because I had a stuttering problem. This speech impediment started to affect me from the age of four and was to continue to ruin and dictate my life for the next eighteen years. Some would perhaps say that I should not have let it have affect me as much as I did, but at the time it was extremely hard to think in a positive manner. I was desperate to somehow achieve fluency but I was constantly being told by numerous speech therapists that there was no known cure for a stutter.
This as you may be able to imagine was some what of a downer for me as I just could not face having to live my whole life with this horrible stutter.
I also had a bald patch in the middle of my scalp which in my opinion made me look like a freak and was a regular source of ridicule from the people in my school class etc.
I was also one of the shortest people in my class at school and as an adult only stand at five foot five. All of these factors put a huge dent in my confidence and led to me regularly being quite depressed.
At the age of twenty-two I started to fight back. I managed to eventually beat the stutter and learnt how to accept my height and bald patch. I now think in a very positive manner and the future is looking very bright.
My advice to other people who are depressed is to become a lot more care-free and to not worry about what other people think of you.
