OTC Drugs are over the counter drugs. These are medicines which are sold to the patient without any prescription from a health care professional when compared to the prescription drugs they are only sold on prescription to the customers. These drugs are mostly used by the patients who are suffering from the symptoms of common illness which may not require supervision of a physician. There are thousands and thousands of drugs available for OTC but we need to understand which appropriate one to select based upon the condition and how the money can also be saved.
Some OTC Drugs are classified as over the counter that is where a prescription is required but is only given by an employee of a pharmaceutical shop only after the assessment that if the drugs is really required by the patient. In few countries these drugs available in general stores, super markets, or gas stations.
We should choose an appropriate drug from the large variety of OTC Drug that is over the counter drug. If person is suffering from any sort of pain like arthritis or menstrual cramps or backache or any type of pain OTC medicine can be given without any prescription. The people who are suffering from sleeping problems are also helped by the OTC-over the counter drug. They provide sleep aids to the people suffering from this and hence buying and using the OTC sleep drugs will be challenging. The information provided by the OTC drugs is easy and safe to read information regarding how to treat the health related problems. The over the counter medicines give the information about OTC pain relievers, antihistamines, decongestants and cough medications. The medicine has a label which tells us who should take the medicine and how should be used and hence gives the information of which drug to choose
The OTC drugs should be properly used which lies on the customer self-diagonisis like headache may not be dangerous but would be if it is brain tumour or hemorrhage. People must decide by using their common sense as to which symptom or ailment is minor and requires medical attention and should consult a doctor if they are not sure of then symptom. Customers who purchase or uses the drug should read the constructions and follow them very carefully in order to avoid any harmful effects. The label and the brand name of the product should be checked when ever purchased and the dosage should be noted before taking the drugs; because the dosage may be same but will not be safe as they may vary in ingredients. Some drugs may contain products like aluminium and magnesium hydroxides and few others may contain calcium carbonate.
In selecting the right and appropriate OTC drug people should be very careful in reading the information as to which product they require and which will be appropriate based on the particular problem they are suffering. People should also ask questions if they have any doubt in selecting the right OTC drug for their problem. The side effects OTC drugs may not listed in the labels so people think that it might not have any side effects. Some side effects of using this OTC drug can be caused by the continuous use for long term which may not be mentioned in the package. Hence people with chronic pain use this drug without knowing the serious problems that it can lead to.
